May the Forth be with You!
The BIC Center and bIrobot (Beaver Island Community School’s robotics team) have a “May the Fourth be with You” Star Wars watch party starting at 2:00 pm tomorrow (Saturday, May 4 th ).
All three films of the original trilogy will be shown on the BIG screen with the BIG sound in the BIC Center. Showtimes are 2:00 pm for A New Hope, 5:00 pm for Empire Strikes Back, and 8:00 for Return of the Jedi. Most importantly, there will be featured events between shows.
After A New Hope, (at around 4:30) the bIrobot team will be demonstrating this year’s
competition robot and showing off the mini robots they will be using in this summer’s BICS Robotics Camp. Between the Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the lobby of the BIC Center will be transformed into the Cantina on Tatooine (with appropriate non-alcoholic mocktails). Oh, and there’s a costume contest…so pull out your costumes…and head to a planet in a galaxy far, far, away! PS. All of the shows are rated PG.
CTE Student Recognition Banquet - Beaver Island Community Schools
Congratulations to students from Beaver Island Community School's Business Administration and Management and Health Occupations programs who were recognized during last night's Char-Em ISD Career and Technical Education Student Recognition banquet!
Paige Hernadez on Beaver Island!
In collaboration with the Great Lakes Center for the Arts, BICS is hosting Paige Hernandez on Beaver Island this week. Paige is a critically acclaimed multidisciplinary artist who hails from Washington D.C. and before that Baltimore. She's a performer, director, choreographer, musician, dancer, and playwright. She's working with our 1-8th grade students during the day on Wednesday and Thursday, with a presentation of their work that's open to all Islanders at the BIC Center on Thursday, 5/25 at 6:30 pm.
Come on out to meet Ms. Hernandez and see our students share the work they've done with her on Thursday night. Tickets are free-will donation and all proceeds will be split between BICS and the BIC Center. See you at 6:30 tomorrow night!

Everyone is invited to join BICS for the Kid's St. Patrick day concert, starting at 2:30 pm in the gym. Cindy, Danny and brother Jim will be playing music, Bridget Martin has been teaching students a jig so come watch the kids dance. Join into the square dance after the kids finish their show.

Several weeks ago Glenn Hendrix helped the elementary complete a research study on Pat Bonner and shared his new book. Today he was able to play his fiddle for us. The students even got to try their hand at it.

It is a blue bird day here on island, perfect for our introduction to dog sledding in preparation for the upcoming Iditarod. Thank you, Jacque LaFreniere, for your knowledge and time!

Thanks to the love and labor of many parent and community volunteers, the BICS K-12th grade students, faculty, and staff enjoyed breaking bread together in the 2023 Annual BICS Thanksgiving Feast. We appreciate the opportunity to come together as one school. Thank you parents and community members for your delicious cooking!

Our Flex Farm has been fun to learn with. Today our students harvested lettuce and romaine. The basil is still growing, but was taste tested.
