Part Time Building and Grounds Maintenance and Custodial Position

DESCRIPTION
Beaver Island Community School is seeking qualified candidates to fill a part-time building and grounds custodian/maintenance position. Hours are flexible.

QUALIFICATIONS and CERTIFICATIONS
• Graduation from high school or equivalent.
• A pleasant, positive attitude and ability to work cooperatively with others as well as manage work in a self-directed manner.
• Ability to read chemical labels and material safety data sheets.
• Knowledge of, and interest in, building and grounds infrastructure.
• Willingness to learn, adapt to changing situations, and be resilient.
• Valid Michigan driver’s license.
• Ability to pass a Michigan State Police background check.

POSSIBLE JOB DUTIES
• Maintain BICS equipment, building, and grounds in top condition (e.g., trim lawn around building, trim shrubs, remove weeds, etc.).
• Assure safety of building ingress and egress during inclement weather.
• Coordinate with contractors for building projects and communicate effectively with all stakeholders regarding building and grounds maintenance needs.
• Assist with set up of community events.
• Assist with developing infrastructure systems for efficient operations.
• Other activities as assigned that contribute to the clean, efficient, and effective use of the BICS building and grounds.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Requires lifting, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing, bending, reaching, turning, and twisting
• Requires work in high places
• Requires work indoors and outdoors year-round

SALARY/HOURS: $18.00-$20.00/hr.; approx. 10 hrs/wk.; no benefits

 Notice of School Board Vacancy June 10, 2024 The Board of Education of Beaver Island Community School (BICS) is accepting letters of interest from candidates interested in being appointed to a vacancy on the BICS Board of Education (BOE). An individual is eligible if they are a citizen of the United States and is a qualified and registered voter of the district. The person appointed to fill this vacancy shall hold office until the next regular school board election (November 3, 2026), at which time the appointed candidate may run for election to the office. All interested candidates must submit a letter if interest stating why they feel they would be an excellent candidate for the board.
